Presentation of the Hegesco project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

In December 2013 project coordinator dr. Samo Pavlin  presented the Hegesco project on the conference "Graduate Employability and the Role of Higher Education - Opportunities and Challenges in the 21st Century" in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference was hosted by MyEULink project, co-hosted by the Ministry of Education and supported by the European Union and The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. It featured speakers from both the EU and Malaysia, representing academia, policy makers and industry, who addressed the issues of Graduate Employability and the role Higher Education has in shaping students for future employment.

Presentation of the Final Slovenian Results of the Hegesco Project

  • 67 members of HE management, policy makers and other stakeholders of Slovenian HE
 

Dr. Samo Pavlin presented the Hegesco project to an audience of approximately 70 people at the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event presented the project’s main conclusions, including those from the large scale survey and the interviews with managers of higher education institutions and employers’ organisations, to a myriad of stakeholders in the Slovenian HE system. Parts of the presentation were specifically tailored to address the situation of HE and graduates in Slovenia.  The main objective of the event was to raise awareness of the project and its results and inform relevant stakeholders where they can acquire a copy of the Hegesco project’s final reports. The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer session.

  • All members of the Hegesco project team


The DECOWE Conference was a major dissemination activity related to the Hegesco project. The empirical findings of several European Projects were used as a basis for dialogue between researchers, HE management staff and policy makers. The main emphasis was on the key note presentations of the European Commission, OECD, REFLEX, and HEGESCO projects. However, other participants, including researchers, management staff of educational institutions, employers, policy makers and trade union representatives, presented their own projects, ongoing activities, surveys and studies from across the world.

After the presentation, Dr. Pavlin and Dr. Svetlik answered questions from the audience about the significance of the survey?s results in relation to the Slovene higher education space and its position vis a vis the rest of of Europe.

Professor Julia Evetts, an expert in the field of Sociology of Professions from Nottingham University, UK, explains the concepts and notable changes that have occurred in the field in recent years. With her international reputation she has contributed extensively to the conceptual, theoretical and empirical elements of the subject. With her extensive experience of policy, practice, evaluation and assessment in the field of the sociology of professional groups, practitioners and clients, she agreed to answer a few short questions on the subject while on a short visit to Ljubljana.
